Eventbrite // Event Search

When I came to Eventbrite the event search functionality was rather – non-functional. The search engine was slow, filtering events was non-existent, no geolocation data was being leveraged to help the viewer find events near them, and the results being displayed were basic and hard to read.

Event search was going to be key to the companies growth as it became more and more of an event discovery site. People needed to be able to quickly find what was going on near them, or in another location, and quickly absorb the key information of What, When and Where quickly.

Event Search Results An example search for events in Oakland, California that shows 1653 events returned while offering further filtering and the number of events associated with those filters. Each time a filter is selected, the page dynamically refreshes to update the search results. Venue locations are linked to allow for viewing other events at the venue while a "View Map" button displays the venue location using the Google Maps API. Event hosts are also linked to enable people to see other events by that event host. A lot of information is quickly provided to help people find the event they want to attend.
Event Search - Date Range The date range option made use of a custom designed calendar module that enabled people to specify the exact dates for a search query. This is most useful for other event holders to find out what's happening on dates they might want to hold events to determine if there are conflicting events that would impact attendance.
